October 1, 2022, is the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. I wish the People’s Republic of China a prosperous one!
China has now become the world’s second-largest consumer market and the largest trader of goods. I believe that many businessmen who want to trade with China are more concerned about the status quo of China’s foreign trade, so let’s take a look at it together.
According to relevant news reports, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs, in the first eight months of this year, the total value of China’s import and export of goods trade was 27.3 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.1%. Specifically, China’s exports in the first eight months were 15.48 trillion yuan, an increase of 14.2%; imports were 11.82 trillion yuan, an increase of 5.2%; the trade surplus was 3.66 trillion yuan, an increase of 58.2%.
Li Kuiwen, director of the Statistics and Analysis Department of the General Administration of Customs, said that since the beginning of this year, facing the complex and severe foreign trade development environment, my country has effectively coordinated epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development, and has continued to issue a series of policies to stabilize foreign trade, which has promoted the steady growth of foreign trade.
From the perspective of trading partners, ASEAN continues to maintain the status of my country’s largest trading partner. In the first 8 months, the total value of trade between my country and ASEAN was 4.09 trillion yuan, an increase of 14%, accounting for 15% of my country’s total foreign trade value; the total value of trade between my country and the EU was 3.75 trillion yuan, an increase of 9.5%, accounting for 13.7%; The total value of Sino-US trade was 3.35 trillion yuan, an increase of 10.1%, accounting for 12.3%; the total value of Sino-Korea trade was 1.6 trillion yuan, an increase of 7.8%, accounting for 5.9%.
It is worth mentioning that during the same period, China’s total imports and exports to countries along the “Belt and Road” increased by 20.2% year-on-year, and its imports and exports to the other 14 members of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) increased by 7.5% year-on-year.
Regarding the latest news about China’s foreign trade, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade will hold a regular press conference for September on the morning of September 29, 2022. Sun Xiao, spokesperson of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Secretary-General of the China Chamber of International Commerce, attended the event, introduced the relevant situation, and answered questions from the media.
When answering the reporter’s question, Sun Xiao mentioned that at present, foreign trade companies are facing multiple problems such as shrinking external demand, insufficient orders on hand, high comprehensive costs, repeated epidemics, and increasing economic and trade frictions. According to the survey, 60.02% of companies said that the decline in orders was the biggest difficulty, 51.83% of companies felt that orders were diverted, 56.22% of companies believed that raw material costs had risen, and 47.68% of companies reported that the epidemic affected production.
Since the beginning of this year, under the background of repeated global epidemics, the outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis, and the weakening of international trade and investment, my country’s foreign trade, and foreign investment have withstood heavy pressures and overcome many difficulties. The stock is stable and the quality is improved. On September 13, based on a series of policies issued in the early stage, the State Council executive meeting deployed measures to stabilize foreign trade and investment further to help the economy consolidate and recover its foundation.
China Council for the Promotion of International Trade will conscientiously implement the spirit of the executive meeting of the State Council, focus on the work of serving foreign-funded enterprises, and focus on the following three aspects. The first is to strengthen the situation research and judgment. We will closely track new trends in the world economic situation, new difficulties for foreign trade and foreign-invested enterprises, and the implementation of the relief policy to help enterprises, report them to relevant departments promptly, and better serve decision-making. The second is to build more platforms. Organize enterprises to participate in B20 and APEC Business Advisory Council meetings, continue to hold a series of digital exhibitions, organize enterprises to participate in large-scale foreign exhibitions promptly, and organize China Chamber of International Commerce member enterprises to carry out local tours and do everything possible to help enterprises seize orders, expand markets, and seek business opportunities. The third is to provide efficient services. Guide enterprises to make full use of the preferential policies of free trade agreements such as RCEP, improve the facilitation of the issuance of preferential certificates of origin, do a good job in international economic and trade arbitration, commercial mediation and intellectual property services, and help enterprises to strengthen compliance and deal with trade frictions.
China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, as the management department for going abroad to participate in economic and trade exhibitions, by the decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, complies with the urgent expectations of enterprises going abroad to participate in exhibitions, insists on coordinating epidemic prevention and control and the approval management of overseas economic and trade shows, and timely launches the resumption of overseas economic and trade exhibitions.
